SUMMER

Submission by: Lucy Edwards

I washed your blanket yesterday

it came up bright blue as the best spring cornflower

and I dried it in the midday sun

it smells like you

warm, sweet and full of soft kisses

it covers me now and did last night when I couldn’t plug up the wind

draughty, determined and cold through the old sash windows

it curled around my limbs tight as you do

hugging my legs and hips and back

just as you do

while I thought of you

caressing your neck and the back of your soft ears

I thought of kissing you as I looked at you in your bathroom mirror naked

watching you watch me over your shoulder, pressed tight behind you as you went about your bedtime routine

I remember looking at you as i stroked secret pockets of your body

remembered how our eyes always searched and locked into each other

my hands exploring your thighs finding the nooks that only I could touch

turning your face gently so your lips found mine and kissing you soft and long and searching and wet

all of my body and all of my heart misses the heat of you

I don’t know that I could ever breathe if I didn’t know your heart was at the other end of my kiss
